Citizens Oak Ridge, a citizens group advocating sound government practices, will meet Tuesday, May 1st from 6:30 to 8:30pm in the Club Room of the Oak Ridge Civic Center. The group recently organized a successful petition drive to require a vote on City bonds for a proposed shopping center. The all-volunteer effort is calling for greater scrutiny and transparency in the City’s real estate dealings.
“Without a defined and objective process for making major financial decisions, the system is ripe for misuse,” according to Bill Schramm, Citizens Oak Ridge president. “You can’t tell a good deal from a bad one.” The group is urging full financial disclosure for the proposed real estate deal.
The referendum on City bonds will be included on the June 5th ballot, with early voting from May 16th to May 31st. For further information or to make donations, contact Citizens Oak Ridge at www.citizensoakridge.com; P.O. Box 4325, Oak Ridge, TN 37831; or call 220-0829.
